Toying with Creativity: A Workshop by Michelle Bates

Want to reconnect with the simple joys of photography? Join Michelle Bates, author of “Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity,” as she guides you into the wonderful world of the plastic Holga camera. With this very basic device we will explore image-making with a twist!

This two-day workshop will include a slide show of a wide range of toy camera photography, the chance to play with a variety of toy cameras, and comprehensive how-to information about shooting with Holgas and other plastic cameras. Michelle will cover everything from the basics to advanced techniques to camera modifications. Each student will receive a Holga camera and access to Michelle’s library of toy camera publications as well as her broad knowledge of photography.

The weekend will begin with Michelle’s slide show at 11 a.m., Sat. May 17th at The Big Top. This talk is free and open to the public. The workshop begins at 2:00 p.m. and is limited to 35 participants. Sign up now! We will photograph with Michelle on Saturday, have the film processed overnight, and review the results on Sunday. Michelle will critique work and inspire you to get your creative juices flowing!

Cost: $75 for Photo Alliance and ASMP members. $100 for non-members. Cost includes a Holga, one roll of film and processing, and a signed copy of Michelle's book, “Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity." (Participants will be responsible for the costs of any additional film and processing)
